The stadium in Tübingen has a capacity of 3,000 spectators and offers maximum flexibility and efficiency in space usage and planning. Multi-use spaces and rooms provide an environment suited to school and club sports as well as professional, high-performance and trend sports.
In an aim to maximize usability in a limited space, the design elects to activate the façades for more than just basic weatherproofing. Each front fulfils its own function, whether as a climbing wall or a backdrop for trendy sports such as skating or street ball, as a solar panel system or a welcoming fully-glazed entrance and balcony. Despite the varied character and impact of the façades, together they display a cohesive collection of materials and colors that are fitting for the exterior shell of a large stadium. The heterogeneous exterior contrasts with the more homogeneous design of the building’s interior. A monochrome magenta shell frames the central sports and event space; raw concrete walls line the perimeter. A natural ventilation system atypical in stadium architecture complements the solar panel wall to underscore the project’s overarching commitment to sustainability.
