The office of the future is increasingly being shaped by an ever more virtual and mobile working world. The design for the new Audi office building is aimed at providing the appropriate spatial requirements to maximise potentials within the company, encourage individual skills, incorporate the most innovative technologies and create a place with a clear identity. On an urban scale, this corporate culture is clearly presented through visible features in the façade; on the inside, the company philosophy is conveyed to the employees as a physical experience.
The design principle of the Audi office building was to create a spatial network, which can also move into a third dimension and thus enable a culture of communication and exchange among all employees in a single structure. Owing to the sculptured levels and the large multi-storey space this effects in the centre of the building, all horizontal boundaries have been eliminated within the headquarters. The result is a genuine space, an area which is able to translate directly the qualities of an “open space” into the third dimension. Due to the arrangement of generous, non-directed platforms, which receive daylight through round roof openings, areas ideally suited as communication zones for the 1500 employees have been created between the circular segments.
All departments are interconnected in the form of a dynamically shaped continuous space. The entire building is also accessible for cars. A car-sized ramp and a car lift connect all levels
including the roof.
