The plan to revitalise the local shopping centre was implemented with the aim of tidying up the structural situation and restoring an architecturally appealing appearance to the urban space.
The focus of the project was on restructuring the retail space and renovating the façades on the upper floors. An adjacent glass structure was demolished and replaced with a new building designed to fit precisely into the urban landscape.
A uniform architectural language and the reinforcement of the horizontal principle resulted in a clear programmatic allocation of the floors. The tectonic elements of the entire ensemble were significantly strengthened by means of so-called ‘bands’ made of uniform material. Weakening or disruptive components were removed in order to open up access areas and enhance passageways.
The façade renovation restored the building's structured, homogeneous appearance, based on the original design from the 1970s. The existing fibre cement panels were removed and replaced with a light-coloured, reflective glass mosaic.
The structural interventions not only improve the cityscape, but also the quality of life around the building complex by eliminating dark passages and tunnels.
