Apartment Complex Adlzreiterstraße

The architectural concept for the Adlzreiterstrasse apartment complex is neither restrictive nor restricting – even with a clearly limited footprint – and creates a generous feeling of space.

As part of the urban densification process in downtown Munich, a freestanding building with 21 apartments and green space has been inserted into an empty courtyard. The design takes care to visually integrate the independent structure within the existing cityscape and adapts the ridge and eave heights to those of the surrounding buildings to that end. Generous window elements with glass balustrades and recessed terraces open out the building, giving the apartments plenty of natural light and open space. The configuration of the rooms is flexible. Despite the proximity to the neighboring buildings, the design offers positive views of and from the building within its ensemble. The fire wall bordering the property is a key factor in this, restored in part with bright render and landscaped with vines.

Adding green space around the building with trees and a playground – along with the overall architectural design – supports the feeling of generous space in this confined urban courtyard.
