In response to the typical demands for durability and utility, the design for this municipal service yard proposes a surprisingly translucent building. Lightness, precision and practicality define its form.
The design makes this impression primarily through the structure’s sculptural qualities, provided by reinforced concrete framing and a solid construction clad in translucent, semi-transparent polycarbonate. The interior shows through on the outside and enhances the homogeneous appearance of the service yard. The design places the two buildings one in front of the other, each of equal length, but of different width and height. This serves to distinguish the buildings’ functions: the workshops, communal spaces and administrative offices are in one building, while the vehicle depot, repair shop and vehicle wash facility are in the other.
