The design incorporates the tension between the public and private spheres in inner-city districts by subtly responding to the existing historically rooted urban environment and transforming it in an forward-looking way.
The traditional gable-roof motif becomes a theme that fosters a sense of identity, emphasized by the symbolic opening and dissection of the mansory shell at the gable edge. This reveals a fragile skin that contrasts with the solidity of the stone. The white surfaces of the large gable openings emphasize their abstract quality and thus contribute to an architectural reinterpretation of the motif.
