Bright, greyish-white concrete and generous windows in white glass define the outher appearance of the new synagogue building and Jewish community centre in Ulm. The building seeks a dialogue between the inside and outside.

The façade offers glimpses of the interior, but also screens off private areas. The sculptural architectural body is internally structured by two main elements: the storey levels, which are each offset on five florrs, and the staircase that encloses and provides access to them. The staircase "celebrates" the ascent to the eastward-oriented synagogue - it is the cpmpass point that sets the direction here. The first ten letters of the Hebrew alphabet are embossed on the inner wall of the staircase to symbolize the Ten Commandments. The way upwards becomes a space for commemoration and dialogue. A kitchen, shop and the ritual immersion bath are located on the ground floor and basement, while the kindergarten, library and religious school are on the first two upper storeys. The synagogue on the third storey completes the building. A large window oriented towards the east, in which the names of the twelve tribes of Israel are insribed, becomes the central design element here. A large roof garden is to be plated above the synagogue.
