The project involves the refurbishment, extension and redesign of the interiors of two office buildings in Munich, situated amongst historic buildings.
The tension in the design arises from the integration of the two modern buildings, dating from the 1950s and 1970s, into an ensemble with the neighbouring listed Art Nouveau building and the historic Prinzregententheater opposite.
The renovation and extension aim to enable sustainable future use. To this end, both the external appearance of the entire complex and the interior design are being given a contemporary makeover. A uniform colour scheme for the two buildings strengthens their presence on the square. The façade design plays with massiveness and transparency, layering and reflection.
A new roof structure made of steel and glass brings both buildings to the same height and connects them as a distinct element. The large wraparound roof terrace and green courtyard areas provide high-quality communal spaces.
