As part of the open call of the International Building Exhibition (IBA) Munich Metropolitan Region, we have developed an innovative concept for on-demand shuttle stations in cooperation with the Chair of Transport Engineering at the Technical University of Munich under the direction of Prof. Dr. Bogenberger together with Dr. Johannes Müller.
The IBA Munich is dedicated to the future of urban transportation under the motto 'Spaces of Mobility'. As an architecture firm with extensive experience in the design of infrastructure in urban and public spaces, we are developing a design guideline for the stations of this new transportation typology together with our partners, who provide the extensive technical knowledge for this.
Our approach goes beyond pure functionality – the stations are seen as an integral part of the urban space. They are no longer isolated waiting points, but connect existing services, create seamless transfer options and offer a genuine alternative to private transportation.
At the same time, they must blend harmoniously into their surroundings. Our concept therefore envisages modular, adaptive elements that not only improve mobility, but can also transform the urban space – be it through greenery, social meeting points or additional services.
The stations of the future must also become smarter: The integration of on-demand shuttles into the existing mobility offering requires innovative solutions for user guidance, real-time information and digital networking in order to provide the most convenient and efficient mobility experience possible
We are delighted that our project idea was selected from more than 140 submissions and chosen as one of 16 project candidates for the IBA Metropolitan Region Munich. In the next step, we aim to further develop this new mobility typology together with the International Building Exhibition Metropolitan Region Munich and to anchor it prototypically in both urban and rural environments.
